To book or not to book that is the question. With the BP cluster looming in the gulf may people are cancelling vacations, trips, and their plans concerning our beautiful gulf coast. We personally had one client cancel several (15) trips in the Keys. After talking with them and putting a different spin on things they are re booking and I would like to do that for you now. If any of you want or want your children or grandchildren to see the only CORAL REEF SYSTEM IN NORTH AMERICA you better go this year as it may be gone forever if the oil hits this fragile ecosystem. I can’t imagine Lou Key Reef, or underwater Jesus at Penny Camp being covered in a black nasty gunk. Myself and my family are going down to see this for what may be the last time. I know this sounds like gloom and doom but the poor folks in Alaska are still reeling from the aftermath of the Exxon Valdez incident over twenty years ago.
I spoke with Pat Dixon of Venice, LA yesterday and Pat told me that they are still catching plenty of trout and a few redfish. He reports that there are still plenty of fish and plenty of clean water to fish now. What he is worried about is things years down the road, thing he was able to see and do that his son won’t be able to because it’s gone. So if you want to go to the Keys lobstering and haven’t, gone up north around Crystal River and Homosassa scalloping and haven’t, fished or snorkeled or dove any where and haven’t you better go now while it’s still here.
Fishing here in West Central Florida remains as hot as the weather. Tarpon are all up and down the beaches as a matter of fact as I sat down to write this Capt. Mike was just pulling up to a pod of chewing tarpon…he just makes me sick. The snapper bite is on fire the night bite this weekend with the full moon, man it just doesn’t get any better. There are still plenty of mackerel around as well.
