I swear if it get’s any colder I’m moving to Florida. I heard on Thursday that Florida was the only state in the union that didn’t have any snow on the ground. I was hoping after last year’s frigid winter that we were due for a mild winter but I guess not. To be honest I cancelled all of my trips this week because of the high winds and low temperatures, so I have not been out this week. Right now it’s 7:00am on Friday morning and the temperature is 35 degrees and Mike and I have some die hards and we are about to leave the dock. So I’ll share the game plan with you. WE are going to start out using live shrimp, a couple with split shots on them and a couple of free lined. The reason for this is just to see what the fish want. We expect to hit some grouper, sheep head, and redfish on and around the docks. Later as the temp’s heat up we will hit the deeper grass flats with artificials such as the Berkley Gulp and DOA CAL jigs for trout. It may take a while to find them but usually once you locate the school it should be on. There is no doubt it’s going to be tough, but hey so are we, well maybe not that tough.
Off shore Gag Grouper is now closed in Federal Waters but still remains open in state waters. It will be a good weekend to do that as this past cold front really stirred up the gulf. This weekend the seas should lie down and the gags will be stacked up like chord wood on the structure just off the beaches. Remember state waters extend to nine miles on the gulf so there are plenty of fish to be had.
