This weeks Boca Grande action remained hot. Big Tarpon and tasty Permit were our top targets and they both gave our clients loads to smile about this week. On Monday we caught permit just drifting small crabs over structure within 2 miles of the beach. The key is small split shot just up the line from the hook to help get the bait down to the fish. You have got to be ready to reel as these great game fish will hurt your feelings in a hurry if your not. Big Tarpon remain thick along the beaches and passes from Clearwater all the way south to Sannibel. Position your boat and bait in front of approaching fish and let the fish come to you. 65lb braid and 80lb fluorocarbon leader is recommended for best results.
Capt. Ben Marshall reports a steady upper Tampa Bay bite. Silver Trout, Speckled Trout, Jack Crevalle and Cobia have all been targets on his charters. Good moving water has been key to his success along with lively baits.
Offshore things are good as well, with American Red Snapper season opening last Wednesday people have a lot of options. The runs can be long this time of year as a lot of fish have moved a ways offshore, but the rewards can be incredible. Lots of Snapper as well as big Amberjack can be caught fairly easily. Again a livewell full of lively baits can be your best friend on these long trips offshore.
