Well we ran our first week in Boca Grande, and it was nothing short of spectacular. The first trip we focused on tarpon with Glenn Oakes and his friends Brad and Jerry. We hooked a couple of fish early and the nothing, nothing, nothing, and then God flipped on the switch. Every crab we threw into the magical pod was eaten within 30 seconds if you didn’t get bit you had been robbed. We had double hook ups and the big fish was around 160 pounds. The next trip we focused on permit with Mike and Linda Borden and their good friend Jim. Again a couple of early hook ups the God threw the switch again and it was doubles and triple hook ups. Then we had Doug, Doug, Rick, and Ron we had tarpon for breakfast, a quick dash in for a Blue Crab burrito lunch complete with frozen drinks (for our clients, of course), then some afternoon permit mayhem. The fish that were caught on the trips were all taken on crabs. It’s important to have good quality fresh lively crabs and the right size as well.
Wednesday morning I left Boca on my way to Cortez to meet my partner in crime Captain Mike Anderson, and Captain Larry McGuire of Show Me the Fish Charters to film another episode of Reel Animal’s. After a 38 mile boat ride, the catch and release Gag bite was unreel with Gags to 20 pounds, 30 pound Amberjack, and 4-6 pound Mango snapper. Then on Thursday, we met up with Jimmy Brazil of Delosa’s Pizza at his restaurant in John’s Pass Village, along with Captain Morgan and Captain Jesse James to film another episode. We rode 60 miles west to one of their “so so” spots, and upon arrival the yellow tail snapper rose to meet us. Guys we caught flag yellow tails, mango snapper, American red snapper, cobia and both Jimmy and our camera man Scott got their first permit.
